1973 VW Karmann Ghia Coupe. This is an American LHD Ghia, imported from the USA to the UK in 1986 (registered correctly as a ’73 on an ‘M’).  The Ghia has had a lot of work done over the past 7 years and is on the road and ready to use:

 

Body - solid body shell which has been subject to the ‘Cal’ look with removal of bumpers, chrome and closure of all trim holes etc.  The later style front indicator and sidelights have been removed and early VW beetle light buckets fitted with Porsche 911 glass and chrome – a common VW mod in the 80/90’s. With the rear deck lid, a custom rain drip tray has been fabricated and painted to match engine tin ware. Car was subject to a full respray in 2017, with custom pin striping by Ross Hastie, well-known in the custom scene.  Car was last painted by DTH Performance Workshop, who also undertook the fabrication around front light mod. 

Chassis is solid, but has been previously been welded.

 

Interior – Recent new headliner and a pair of Porsche Boxster (986) seats,  ISP Monster tach has been fitted and a custom CSP T bar 60% reduction throw gear shift fitted. Longer throw standard gearshift supplied with car.  Retrosound classic radio with Bluetooth.

 

Mechanics - EVA Resto Airjustible V2 style front beam with 4” narrow, allowing adjustment of front ride height and compatible with future air suspension.  Car has been lowered at front end and recent oil shocks fitted.  Rear suspension adjusted on splines to lowered stance and fitted with oil filled shocks. Reconditioned steering box and front brake calipers fitted this year (2021) when new front beam was fitted. Engine has been subject to a full strip and rebuild with a number of upgraded parts fitted within last 500 miles.  1600 Engine case has been line bored, crank and flywheel checked and balanced, new bearings, 1776 Mahle Barrel & Piston Kit, 90.5mm CB performance 044 Magnum Cylinder Heads, JayCee Pushrod tubes, Scat pro steel pushrods, Engle 110 Cam and Engle 28mm lifters, super stock rocker arms, Dellorto 36 twin carbs, CSP manifolds, CSP bell crank linkage, K&N filters, Bosch 009 distributor with electronic ignition, Electric fuel pump, remote oil filter and Vintage Speed sports exhaust.

 

 

Wheels – original Empi Sprinstars, 4.5” front; 5.5” rears painted black with silver and pinstripe detail.
