1968 Mk2 Lotus Cortina with genuine 61000 miles and completely unrestored. This car is absolutely solid underneath and has to be one of the most original British Cars i have seen for a long time. Cars like this do not come along very often and this might be a once in a lifetime opportunity to buy a genuine original unrestored solid example.
This car was first registered on 15 March 1968 to a Mr Kynoch from Falkirk, Scotland. It had a few other local owners before being stored in a garage in Edinburgh from the 70s until about a year ago. We have the original green owners book with all the registered keepers on it and also the new style current V5 which states Lotus Cortina. We have the original handbook also. As this car had been of the road for a long long time the car was authenticated by the Lotus Cortina Register and we have a copy of that along with a valuation from them. This was submitted to DVLA and they were happy to send out the new style V5.
Body - Genuine Lotus Cortina with all the right bits verified by The Lotus Cortina Register. It looks like underneath was covered in oil before it was stored as it has been preserved perfectly. You can still see every spot weld and there are no sweaty rusty bits or any sign of corrosion on the underside. Ive never seen an unrestored British car like it. It will need a cosmetic restoration as the paint is showing signs of age and there are marks on most panels as follows. Bonnet - solid underside but looks like its flipped up as has bends at the hinges. Wings - Scruffy at bottoms, Doors - Good but paint scruffy, Rear quarters - Surface rust on arches pretty sure they are saveable as solid, Hole on N/s where lower quarter meets sill at join. Sills underneath are solid. Back panel - Small hole on N/S, Front Valance - Unattached from wing a bit at N/S. Bootlid - Few dinks and dents but saveable. Small thumb nail size hole on N/S inner wing behind bonnet hinge
Mechanics - Engine was recently rebuilt with new pistons, rings, gaskets etc. We have pictures of the work being done. The guy that built the engine was from a local engine shop who used to work on these many years ago. It starts on the button and runs and drives although now has a slight blow from the downpipes. The car was motd last year at the request of the DVLA. Everything is pretty original apart from new front calipers were put on it as old ones were past the point of saving.
Interior - Totally original and in very good order. Good headlining, seats front and rear, dashtop, doorcards. All the correct guages are in place. Just needs and good clean and nothing else.
Wheels - original factory Lotus steels with hubcaps.
Please feel free to come and view the car and we will happily put it up on the ramp for you to look at. Any questions please ask or call 07879557668. Delivery can be arranged if required but only after car is paid for. If you want to come and view the car we are happy to pick you up at Edinburgh airport or the local train station and return you whether or not you buy.
I have looked at literally hundreds of old fords in the last few years and this car is a bit special given that its not been messed with and is so solid and original underneath. If you want one of these this is the one!!!!
